Choosing the right lawn mower
Should I buy a Ride on Mower

This is a very common question particularly when a garden is between 1/4 and 2/3rds of an acre.

For larger lawns the Ride on Mower is generally accepted as the quickest way to a beautiful lawn, but at the levels above it can be a more difficult choice.

Many people have an ambition to own a sit on mower, and this is the over riding factor in their choice. If that is the case then as long as it fits through the gate we say "go for it" Mowing the lawn on a Ride on machine can be very relaxing and enjoyable.

If you are agonising over the "right" choice then consider the following:

Price - always a factor. New Ride on mowers are generally £1000.00 plus whereas rotary mowers tend to be more in the range of £150.00 to £1000.00 Servicing costs are generally about double for Ride on machines.

What is the layout of your garden? To maximise the benefit from a Ride on mower you need the lawn to be as straight forward as possible. A 1/4 acre garden with lots of low trees, wavy flower borders and obstructions is unlikely to benefit from a sit on machine.

Remember that the majority of Ride on owners will run around the borders and edges first with a small pedestrian machine, and on smaller lawns it is often quicker to just carry on with one machine rather than putting it away and getting another out.

Can you use a Ride on mower for other tasks? Most Ride on's will take a wide range of towed accessories from rollers to trailers, rakes to spreaders. All of these, but in particular trailers can be a huge benefit.

Age of the operator. There are some very small Ride on machines available these days to suit users who struggle with the walking but don't necessarily have massive lawns. These machines are generally below 80cm (30")

If still in doubt then contact ourselves, or your dealer of choice and talk the issue through. Many dealers like ourselves are more than happy to discuss options, and offer the benefit of our experience.
